I log in on occasion, but not for very long lately. I never planned on playing it more than casually, though. It's good fun to hop in every once and a while and get in trouble.

it starts strong and then it dies. its the way of life for an emulated UO server. the excitement is derived from the value of your everyday actions in the game. much like in real life, if nothing has value then what is to motivate you?

if money was obtained effortlessly, you wouldnt go to work. if you didnt go to work you'd probably lay around alot. you'd have alot of things, in theory your lifestyle would be "rich". but no richer than the man next to you. he'd be laying around doing nothing as well. you'd both have all the same things, nothing to compete over, and even the most expensive luxuries having no value but the time invested in waiting.

soon you would find yourself completely miserable. you would no longer have anything to strive for, even getting out of bed would seem pointless.

so why is it so hard for people to see negative impacts that legal and encouraged unattended macroing could bring to an emulated world?

because they are selfish. somewhere in their mind, mostly due to lack of experience in this sytem, they believe they can take an easy route, and gain some sort of advantage. whether the advantage be over an opponent, or over their own free time. but in the end the crushing reality returns that this opponent you despise is suddenly just as disenchanted with the system as you. and this "free time" you struggle so valiantly to save is exactly the thing you were looking to kill in the beginning.

and so the story goes, the sheltered and self fulfilling mind creates its own prison. killing itself time and again. an entire community of people so dedicated to one thing, that it actually blinds them from what makes their love so precious.

they will slowly crawl away, broken and dishearted. hoping somewhere inside for that next t2a emulated server to pop up in the future. and again they will repeat the cycle, enjoying themselves for a month or so until the magic is destroyed once again. all the while never dawning on their little heads what makes those first few months of starting anew so much fun.
