Probably not as good for those of you who have never played UO before this experience, but I definitely learned some stuff.

I just need to know if items break after repeated usage, or if they amended/altered it on this freeshard somewhat.

I know armor breaks. And I believe weapons break as well. Not sure about crafting tools.

i found it surprising to see the % durability left go down so fast. tested it with a GM arms lore niggerniggerniggerniggerniggersmithy dude... the durability drops like a rock. after pveing with a sword for 2 hours, it's trash, and needs to be repaired.

Not only that, but there's this from the post:
"Used Items
Everyone makes a big deal about unused weapons and armor. For repairable items, this is frankly a non-issue. Weapons and armor have a certain number of HPs. Their AR and damage are impacted by the PERCENTAGE of HPs they have remaining.
Take a Halberd with 75 HPs for example. When you use it, it slowly loses HPs. At 75/75, it is doing it's full damage. At 68/75, it's probably only doing 95% of it's full damage. At the "falling apart" stage, I believe weapons do only 50% of their damage (and armor only protects 50% as well as a full-strength armor).
When you repair an item, you subtract 0, 1, or 2 HPs from it's total (I forget, I know it's either 0 or 1, or 1 or 2), but then the item's current HPs goes up to it's new max. So worst case, with a Halberd, it gets repaired and then has 73/73 HPs remaining, and it says "it looks unused", because Arms Lore, too, just looks at the % of HPs left. And at 73/73, it's still doing the exact same damage it was before."

I don't know, I repair my shit all time. Couple times each. Then make new ones.
Saves me lots of $$$ and time.

Meditation Macro:
I played with this to get one that involved bottle's of ale to work.
I guess the trick for Meditation gains is to make sure you are in the "sweet spot" range to actually gain skill.
Sweet spot meaning your mana isn't so low you cannot succeed with Meditation and not too high that you always succeed.
Formula for sweet spot seems to be INT - Meditation +/- 10:
100 Int - 50 med = 50 so the range would be 40-60ish.
Keeping that in mind my med macro evolved to:
IF MANA >= (high end of sweet spot)
Drink Booze x times
PAUSE 20 (this was so you wouldn't get too wasted)
ELSE
IF MANA >= (I did 5 under the low end of sweet spot)
Meditate
Pause 10.5 seconds
END IF
END IF
That's the macro simplified. I also added in hiding so if I wasn't meditating it would spam hiding. I added the hiding mainly to finish up GM on it and removed it after. The reason for setting the low end to start trying to meditate was so you were ready as soon as you got into the sweet spot for mana, and not be waiting for your 10 second delay between uses.
Seems to work good so far, I'm at around 60 meditation. The booze method isn't super efficient, and I figure I'll do the rest when I work on magery, but bottles of ale are cheap and it's drunken beggar style of meditation. *hic*

put magical wizards hat on, take hat off. meditate. repeat.
don't need to spend money on the booze.
may take longer, but you can let that shit go for overnight.

My INT is also something like 80 so I don't believe a wiz hat would do much for me. Doesn't it raise int by 5 or something?
All nighters in the tavern is the way Tasos Liespinner does it.
I need a way to throw in random comments talking about his awesome game that's way better than UO. ;)
I figure once I actually start working on Magery I'll build a macro with Meditation gains in mind.

I GM'd magery this afternoon on my bard, and meditation GM'd several hours previous. I did nothing to gain meditation aside from building its use into my magery macro, and meditation started at 30ish (magery at 50).
What I'm saying is, you dont need to macro meditation. It will GM itself if you have your magery macro set up correctly. I just kept an eye on it, and would reset my cast at >= x every few hours to reflect my increased med skill.
This is how it was explained on the forums in this thread (http://forum.uosecondage.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15016): "If you have 10 int, and 40 meditation skill, you effectively need to meditate when you're roughly at 6 mana (10 * 40% = 4; 10 - 4 = 6). This means if you have 5 mana, you've considerably increased your chance to fail, and if you have 7 mana, you've considerably increased your chance to meditate (no chance to fail = no chance to gain.)"
So, since I had 100 int, if I was casting Flamestrike with 60 meditation, I would set my "cast at mana >=" value to 80 or so, because my 40 mana Flamestrike will go off, take me to 40 remaining mana (which is my "sweet spot" according to the above calc) and try to meditate.
If I'm gonna leave it alone for awhile, I'd probably set it to maybe 70 mana, so that my macro could be useful for longer.

the idea is that when you put it on, you have to meditate that extra 5 mana up, gaining skill. but it's apparently a non-issue.
