is this server pre or post pub16?
because if it's pre, all you have to do is put like 20 dying tubs on a packhorse and macro that shit from 50-100.
if not:
3-stone items: Backpacks
4-stone items: Quarter staffs
5-stone items: Closed Helms
6-stone items: Bows
7-stone items: Crossbows
8-stone items: Heavy Crossbows
9-stone items: Hammer Picks
10-stone items: Dye Tubs
it's according to skill. if you have 42 stealing, steal quarterstaves.
also, you should start with 50 stealing.

You can just steal bags full of 1 stone items like bottles rather than buying loads of different items.

lol?
Yes. :)
Unless you don't do any unattended macroing, which is probably unlikely if you are trying to macro up a thief, so a "48 hours of online time" restriction is laughable at best.

what am i doing wrong?
Hide
10 second hold
Stealth
10 second hold
repeat
there a faster way?
i'm guessing it's done now (on both my miner and my thief), but damn, it took 4 days for both.

its pretty slow but also you get increase stealth gains by wearing bits of armor, each bit increases difficulty to stealth which makes gains more common.
also you can try making your macro more efficient, for example:
use skill hiding
pause 10000
if Sys message: you have hidden yourself well.
use skill stealth
pause 10000

are you wearing armor and macroing outside of town? both of those help make skill gains faster.
this is the macro that works for me:
If sysmsg(quietly)
useskill stealth
else
if sysmsg(hidden)
useskill stealth
else
useskill hiding
end if
pause 10s

Yes and no. The account must be a week or two old AND your char must have 48 hrs in game.

Yes and no. The account must be a week or two old AND your char must have 48 hrs in game.
That makes the restriction a little less pointless.
From the Wiki:
In order to steal from other players, you must be a member of the NPC guild for thieves. Your character must be at least one week old, have spent 40 (forty) hours in game and have acheived a minimum skill in stealing of 60 before you can join the guild. Once you have met these requirements, you must locate the thief guildmaster and give him or her five hundred gold in order to join. You may not join the thieves' guild if you have any murder counts and you will be removed from the guild for a week if you receive any counts while a member of the guild. Effectively, as a thief, this means you cannot take any murder counts regardless of whether they turn you into a player killer or not.

that's pretty good. i'm in town covered in armor.
when i started slowing down a bunch, i found a spot that only had some mongbats/headless ones nearby and started macroing there. i left myself on war, and ran my macro. if i got jumped i would defend myself automatically, and the macro didn't interfere because i was in combat so you can't hide or stealth anyway. so about one night of that and i was at GM in both. you could probably find a better location, but i didn't care, and lots of places are worse than having to shank the occasional mongbat.
i wouldn't try this if you haven't got your stats up first, though. have you done that yet? and from what i understand, 20 AR makes for the best gains.

Ive tested stealing 5 bottles, and then 1 closed helm, and there is a huge difference on the skill gain rate, how hell bag makes difference?

you use the bag to work out the right amount of stones to steal. so if your 50 stealing try stealing bag with 4 stones? maybe its 5. i dunno but its something like that and you can increase the weight as you go.
but then again im not sure if stealing gains are difficulty based on this server or not

I got bored of macroing stealing so I went out with like 90 stealing, so far I've made 600 gold and got some random runes and wands and shit. I think people know I'm a thief now though. I actually managed not to get killed.
It was lulzy.
