This is a long post. If you don't want to read this whole thing, read the parts that apply to you and the summation at the bottom.

For posterity and lulz, the original plan:

Phase 1 (3-5 people): I'd like to take a few people that are more into the idea of "playing eve" and get them involved. We'll get things started up and begin our humble corp. Learning basics, fulfilling some basic roles. Work out the bugs in corp management and the meta-corp duties. Working in Torrinos. We've obviously blown that one. Enthusiasm and eagerness broke that pretty hard. Not a problem, this is going well.

Skill gain, character progress in general:

I think I've handed out around 200 mil worth of Tier 2 learning skills. A large part of our active guys are working on them. Once you get them to 3, go straight for engineering/mechanic/assault frigs. If you need guidance on that, don't hesitate to ask someone. If you haven't gotten your tier 2 books, make sure you contact Fiat Sophia in game with an eve-mail asking for them!

Trials may be running out soon for people. This is a good thing: you can train industrials, battleships, do contracts, several things that trial accounts can't.

The main thing here is to keep busy in eve with something fun. Right now, the thing that most people are having a good time doing is probing down mission runners and stealing their mission from them. Most of the profitability from a mission comes from salvaging and looting. If you can entice a mission runner to attack you, this is glorious. Same for miners, don't let those fuckers idly mine in Torrinos or Ibura... bump them off their rocks and jet/secure cans. We're going to try to run the market on several items while we're down here, so every bit of harassment helps. Not to mention things like a retriever kill. (http://sota.griefwatch.net/?p=details&kill=10)

Have your fleet sitting by, aligned towards you, ready to warp in the moment he flags. For tips on doing this, thatcher, moose, and cocer can help.

Again, the main thing is to keep busy with something fun. Don't grind missions or faction or anything like that if you don't like it. You'll get tired of it and be missing out on the other shit. Create a character on FoM, do something else. As you gain more skill points, you'll find more and more things to do, probably too many... this will come, it's right around the corner.

Manufacturing, mining, and trade:

Production: Matriel is our main man when it comes to manufacturing right now. He's setting us up with a list of things we need from salvaging and mining. We've got pretty much all the newbie items we need in that petty cash hangar, so now we're moving on selling outside to the Torrinos folks.

We're also gearing up for making rigs and larger boats. This requires other things besides ore. I'll address that in the PVP section.

Miners: bring in the ore. If you don't have 100% refining efficiency, put it into the mining tab and send Fiat Sophia an email with how much you put in there. I'll give you the money for what it's worth. Right now, the most profitable ore in Torrinos is veldspar because it's used in everything. We do need all of the ores in Torrinos, though, so feel free to go for whatever you like.

Just like the pvp players, though, don't over-mine yourself. Run hauling missions, follow the pvp guys around and do salvaging on what they kill, etc. I'll be buying mining barges for you when you get to that level, and as matriel said, "damn, what you're doing to those rocks in that mining barge is rape." You'll pull in 10x as much.

Trade: It'll be a while until our haulers get into freighters, but when they do, you'll want to look around for hauling contracts. If you need a start on the collateral, I can handle that for you. I have the least contact with the guys doing this, so if you have any questions, let me know. Eve-mail works great, or on here.

Faargin is our main hauler. When you're on and hauling, ask around if anyone needs anything from Jita. Get the money and go buy it in Jita or whatever market you want to. Mark it up 10% and sell it to the corp.

Right now, ya'll should be running missions to get the hang of hauling in general, and then looking for hauling contracts that you can handle. I would stay in high sec unless you have a scout, especially if there's a large collateral. People use this to entice haulers into putting down large collateral and then waiting for them at the low sec gates along the way.

The other thing to do is to get some trade skills (marketing) and carry items from one market to the next, taking advantage of the price differences.

PVP:

So far, I've been really impressed with the folks pvping. I was surprised to see ya'll flipping cans and harrassing mission runners so much. This is glorious fun.

Jobs for pvp guys to do:

Clearing rats for miners at asteroid belts.
Missions
Harass other mission runners and miners. <-- the most fun
Don't hesitate to get your ship blown to smithereens. We have tons of replacements.
SALVAGE.

Salvaging is going to be important for our production guys. A lot of those parts are expensive because they are part of a larger recipe for rigs. Rigs will be a huge cost to us, so handling that internally will be very important. They also go into large ships like BCs and BSs. Don't immediately sell them, as I (or Matriel or another productionater) will buy them from you for market price. We'll get you a list soon of the specific bits of salvage that we need the most.

Summary statement and goals:

The most important thing anyone can do is not get burned out this first month they are playing. It may seem counter-intuitive to a "seasoned MMO vet," but sometimes the best thing you can do is log off. You'll be amazed at how fast those 3-7 day trains go when you aren't watching it tick down. And after you get that assault frig, you'll be amazed at how much shit you have to do now.

Our operation is large. Much larger than I anticipated, for sure. Careful management and organization so that each branch/division compliments the others is important.

PVP guys protecting miners/haulers as well as bringing in salvage.
Miners bringing in ore.
Haulers trading the items that the PVP/Mining/Production teams need as well as generating cash flow by selling the ore and items from the Production/Mining teams.
Production team collecting what they need from haulers/miners, supplying the PVP/mining teams with what they need, and turning a profit on items outside of the corp.

Lots of corporations have tried this and failed. I believe that Anvil Society has the base to do it, and do it well. We have already proven that we are some creative/crafty mother fuckers, we just need to continue to execute.

One thing we need to get used to is giving each other things to do:

"Hey, any haulers on? I need this moved from a to b." or "I need this list of things from Jita." or "Take this to Jita and sell it."
"Miners, I'm making _____. I need x amount of y."
"Anyone want to help me take down this mission runner? He just flagged and he's in a ______."

Shit like that goes a long way in making this game more fun, especially when you're asking someone to do something that you don't think is fun, but they do. If you don't get a response, send out a corp email with the request.

Salvaging - how the hell do i do this? Is it a skill i need to learn first?

then http://www.eve-online-fan.co.uk/eve-salvaging-guide/

essentially buy this tool called a "salvaging tool" and put it on your ship. after you've blown something up, you can go up to it, use the tool on it, and bingo bango, you've got salvage.

when it comes to giving it to the corp, we can use it, sure, but don't take anything i say as what you HAVE to do. if you need the money right then and there for something, then sell it. no biggie.

but you will often find that the salvage is worth more than the bounty on the pirate/reward for the mission.

one of the best money making things we've found is to probe down mission runners, fly in, salvage all the wrecks, and tell the mission runner to fuck off.

Pray the stupid mission runners attack you btw. You can punch way above your weight class if you are fit for pvp and they are fit for pve.

How do you 'probe down' mission runners?

Tetsu

you hold them down and stick it in their ass

How do you 'probe down' mission runners?

this is best taught over vent, as the process is slightly more complicated nowadays.

or you can get an expanded probe launcher and some combat probes and just trial and error until you figured it out. that's the way i did it... takes around an hour. just scan down ships hovering around jump gates.

I've been spending the last few days getting to grips with the market and looking for gaps which we can fill. This was something i never had chance to try last time round and it's quite addicting logging on to find out whats been selling and whats not done so well. I'm trying to see if i can make it with my own cash before i subject to losing millions for the guild, but to be honest, thanks to the outlay from Cocer and teaming up with a Jew, we seem to be doing ok!

My learning skills are pretty much done now and i've been switching between basic production skills and trade skills so i can play an active part in playing the market. Once i'm happy that i can make some cashola i'll be focusing on research related skills in order to make the production side more efficient.

I'll also be buying some more BPOs for various things on friday so we can have a bit more variety on our menu.

Hmm guess I have some time before I can scan for mission runners. The Expanded Probe Launcher requires more CPU than the total amount my current ship has.

So ask for a different ship. Or get a different probe thingy

For the PVP side, I need someone who has been doing it and doing it well.

Stalwert, Thatcher, Moose to put something together for everyone else and also for myself. I know I haven't been on most of the time you guys have been doing this.

What I need is a how to doc.

What flip cans means and how to do it?
How to steal shit without getting flagged if you did what to do about it?
How to clear people from mines?
What to do with sealed cans?
When you can and can't attack someone?
What the yellow and other color targets mean?

I know you can find all this shit online, and if you just want to copy and paste there shit, great. I would just like it all here in one spot where us newbs can read and learn from it.
Any volunteers?

Flipping cans = when someone (a miner, for example) is dropping shit into a can you take it and put it in a can of your own *jettison*
When you take someones shit, they can attack you. If they take what you took, from your can, well hot dog my nigger, blow them the fuck out of the sky. Same if they attack you.
Errm, not sure you can steal without getting flagged.
Take there stuff, kill them. Make them feel unwanted.
Secure cans are a can others can't steal from, they are good for holding loot... I heard you can scoop the secure cans up in certain ships.
In 0.0 space you don't loose standing for killibg people
The colours I don't remember. Green is corp however.
I think this is right, its been ages since I played for any amount of time, forgotten much.

What flip cans means and how to do it?

You find someone mining at an asteroid belt. They have a uncoded canister (what pops out when you jettison something from your cargo bay) sitting next to them that they are storing ore in (because their cargo is 3k m3, the floating can has 27km3) until their hauler gets there. You go up and take all their ore and put it into your own jet can. This flags you to them, they can attack you. If they then take their ore back from your container, you can attack them, and so can your whole fleet. If they instead attack you, only you can fight them.

How to steal shit without getting flagged if you did what to do about it?

You have to flag yourself to steal things. See above "jet cans." What to do about it? Be ready for a fight or flight.

How to clear people from mines?

From mines? Not sure what you mean.

What to do with sealed cans?

Nothing. In lo sec, where there is no concorde: blow it up.

When you can and can't attack someone?

Orange glowy box over their ship: They have you targeted. You can't do shit about that.
Red box over their ship: They are flagged.

What the yellow and other color targets mean?

Yellow-orange: Low sec pirate. Or at least, he's killed enough people in lo sec (0.1-0.4) that Concorde is worried about him. Don't touch him, as he's not enough of a pirate to actually kill yet.
Red: Low sec pirate. Or at least, he's raped and killed enough mother fuckers that Concorde won't mind you taking him out. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ORANGE-RED LATER, who are war targets.
Red-Flashy: How the fuck did this blatant pirate get up into hi sec?
Purple: Fleet-mate
Blue: Alliance-mate

I dunno, any others?

I think another clarification is colors of objects:

White - your lootz
Yellow - bait for stupid people to get killed?
Blue - freely lootable as it's been released

Any others?

Can Ownership? If I leave the belt or wherever I have a flipped can, do I lose ownership? ie. If I flip a can and leave, and they then take it back, do they get flagged?

Can they tell if you are in a fleet?
Since you flipped their can, if they are in a fleet that fleet can attack you. If you are flagged to them, then they form a fleet, can that fleet attack you?

i saw 4 questions.

1st - no, i don't think you lose ownership
2nd - i believe they do
3rd - no they can't tell
4th - that fleet cannot attack you.

So basically, if they have a red box over them, you can attack them. I assume this shows up when they attack you, if you were flagged, correct?

Also, with salvage, salvaging a wreck, no matter the 'color' doesn't flag you, is this correct?

stalwart
12-10-2009, 09:02 PM
not sure. i really haven't done much salvaging, but i believe it does. same for looting them...

Thatcher

You will never get flagged for salvaging, so you don't have to worry about getting zwnt for ninjaing other peoples salvage.

Can we get a progress report?

What with all the talk of wars, alliances/mergers, and new players/alts flying around I'd like a general update of things and happenings within the Corp.

I really like the new Character Reference thread here on the forums.

Thanks
