This is a long post. If you don't want to read this whole thing, read the parts that apply to you and the summation at the bottom.
For posterity and lulz, the original plan:
Phase 1 (3-5 people): I'd like to take a few people that are more into the idea of "playing eve" and get them involved. We'll get things started up and begin our humble corp. Learning basics, fulfilling some basic roles. Work out the bugs in corp management and the meta-corp duties. Working in Torrinos. We've obviously blown that one. Enthusiasm and eagerness broke that pretty hard. Not a problem, this is going well.
Skill gain, character progress in general:
I think I've handed out around 200 mil worth of Tier 2 learning skills. A large part of our active guys are working on them. Once you get them to 3, go straight for engineering/mechanic/assault frigs. If you need guidance on that, don't hesitate to ask someone. If you haven't gotten your tier 2 books, make sure you contact Fiat Sophia in game with an eve-mail asking for them!
Trials may be running out soon for people. This is a good thing: you can train industrials, battleships, do contracts, several things that trial accounts can't.
The main thing here is to keep busy in eve with something fun. Right now, the thing that most people are having a good time doing is probing down mission runners and stealing their mission from them. Most of the profitability from a mission comes from salvaging and looting. If you can entice a mission runner to attack you, this is glorious. Same for miners, don't let those fuckers idly mine in Torrinos or Ibura... bump them off their rocks and jet/secure cans. We're going to try to run the market on several items while we're down here, so every bit of harassment helps. Not to mention things like a retriever kill. (http://sota.griefwatch.net/?p=details&kill=10)
Have your fleet sitting by, aligned towards you, ready to warp in the moment he flags. For tips on doing this, thatcher, moose, and cocer can help.
Again, the main thing is to keep busy with something fun. Don't grind missions or faction or anything like that if you don't like it. You'll get tired of it and be missing out on the other shit. Create a character on FoM, do something else. As you gain more skill points, you'll find more and more things to do, probably too many... this will come, it's right around the corner.
Manufacturing, mining, and trade:
Production: Matriel is our main man when it comes to manufacturing right now. He's setting us up with a list of things we need from salvaging and mining. We've got pretty much all the newbie items we need in that petty cash hangar, so now we're moving on selling outside to the Torrinos folks.
We're also gearing up for making rigs and larger boats. This requires other things besides ore. I'll address that in the PVP section.
Miners: bring in the ore. If you don't have 100% refining efficiency, put it into the mining tab and send Fiat Sophia an email with how much you put in there. I'll give you the money for what it's worth. Right now, the most profitable ore in Torrinos is veldspar because it's used in everything. We do need all of the ores in Torrinos, though, so feel free to go for whatever you like.
Just like the pvp players, though, don't over-mine yourself. Run hauling missions, follow the pvp guys around and do salvaging on what they kill, etc. I'll be buying mining barges for you when you get to that level, and as matriel said, "damn, what you're doing to those rocks in that mining barge is rape." You'll pull in 10x as much.
Trade: It'll be a while until our haulers get into freighters, but when they do, you'll want to look around for hauling contracts. If you need a start on the collateral, I can handle that for you. I have the least contact with the guys doing this, so if you have any questions, let me know. Eve-mail works great, or on here.
Faargin is our main hauler. When you're on and hauling, ask around if anyone needs anything from Jita. Get the money and go buy it in Jita or whatever market you want to. Mark it up 10% and sell it to the corp.
Right now, ya'll should be running missions to get the hang of hauling in general, and then looking for hauling contracts that you can handle. I would stay in high sec unless you have a scout, especially if there's a large collateral. People use this to entice haulers into putting down large collateral and then waiting for them at the low sec gates along the way.
The other thing to do is to get some trade skills (marketing) and carry items from one market to the next, taking advantage of the price differences.
PVP:
So far, I've been really impressed with the folks pvping. I was surprised to see ya'll flipping cans and harrassing mission runners so much. This is glorious fun.
Jobs for pvp guys to do:
Clearing rats for miners at asteroid belts.
Missions
Harass other mission runners and miners. <-- the most fun
Don't hesitate to get your ship blown to smithereens. We have tons of replacements.
SALVAGE.
Salvaging is going to be important for our production guys. A lot of those parts are expensive because they are part of a larger recipe for rigs. Rigs will be a huge cost to us, so handling that internally will be very important. They also go into large ships like BCs and BSs. Don't immediately sell them, as I (or Matriel or another productionater) will buy them from you for market price. We'll get you a list soon of the specific bits of salvage that we need the most.
Summary statement and goals:
The most important thing anyone can do is not get burned out this first month they are playing. It may seem counter-intuitive to a "seasoned MMO vet," but sometimes the best thing you can do is log off. You'll be amazed at how fast those 3-7 day trains go when you aren't watching it tick down. And after you get that assault frig, you'll be amazed at how much shit you have to do now.
Our operation is large. Much larger than I anticipated, for sure. Careful management and organization so that each branch/division compliments the others is important.
PVP guys protecting miners/haulers as well as bringing in salvage.
Miners bringing in ore.
Haulers trading the items that the PVP/Mining/Production teams need as well as generating cash flow by selling the ore and items from the Production/Mining teams.
Production team collecting what they need from haulers/miners, supplying the PVP/mining teams with what they need, and turning a profit on items outside of the corp.
Lots of corporations have tried this and failed. I believe that Anvil Society has the base to do it, and do it well. We have already proven that we are some creative/crafty mother fuckers, we just need to continue to execute.
One thing we need to get used to is giving each other things to do:
"Hey, any haulers on? I need this moved from a to b." or "I need this list of things from Jita." or "Take this to Jita and sell it."
"Miners, I'm making _____. I need x amount of y."
"Anyone want to help me take down this mission runner? He just flagged and he's in a ______."
Shit like that goes a long way in making this game more fun, especially when you're asking someone to do something that you don't think is fun, but they do. If you don't get a response, send out a corp email with the request.
