Here goes nothing:

I was very surprised, but it would seem that the impenetrable wall of Eve-hate is starting to break. Here are some frequently asked questions and responses:

Q: Hey! I heard you have to wait a year to have fun! Why would I want to do that?

A: Well, no. I'll be honest... if you want to be able to fly any ship, do anything, you'll likely have to wait 3+ years. If you want to effectively fly around and rape ass, you can specialize and be effective after the first month. I can teach you to do this. I can also tell you what to do while working on that first month...

Q: Can I just jump into eve expecting to play immediately?

A: This is related to the first question. What people find is that they log in, and immediately want all that eve has to offer. There was a point when CCP played to this and gave people a mil SP to start with. People ended up with entirely too many skills than they knew what to do with. You will not enjoy this game if you play 40 hours in your first week. Take it in small bites, learn what you can while you're on, enjoy it. This is what the 50k persistent players have learned the hard way. Trying to tackle the entire game at once will literally make your head explode.

Q: Hey! I heard you fly around in spaceships. Is that true?

A: Yes. And yes, you can unzoom all the way until you can no longer even see your spaceship. This is effective for large scale battles, and what you see most frequently from the videos. It also helps reduce lag, which is great for frapsing, which is one of the reasons for that... Just paste (use glue) a picture of your female orc from WoW onto the middle of your monitor and you won't be able to tell the difference. Your orc will also shoot lasers. It's tier 50 loot from Onyxia.

Q: Will I have to shoot rocks all day with a civilian mining laser?

A: No, we're well funded and you'll not have to pay for anything for at least a month. If you'd like to contribute, and you're good at poker, you can help me make money. You can if you'd like to, however. You might honestly be surprised how fun ORCA support in 0.0 is...

Q: What's the point of pvp in eve?

A: You kill people. If you need more than that, sovereignty wars, small wars, fun wars, wars wars, resource control, trade route control, ALL THAT SHIT. Trading, politics, as well.

Q: Is eve all pvp?

A: No. PVP is a big part of eve, but by no means all of it or even "most of it." If you're into corp management, there will be that job to do, if you want to mine and do industry, you're more than welcome. We'll have lots and lots of roles to fill. I'll probably take care of 90% of them until we find more people interested in it.

Q: What's your plan?

A:Well, that's just it. I've spent a couple months kind of doing what I've said. Taking it into small bits. I learned to pvp in skirmish and large combat, go on roams, etc. I also learned a bit about corp management and how to do things on the technical side of all that.

If anvil doesn't follow, that's fine, I suppose. I'd rather ya'll just get over it and bite the bullet. Commit to 35 days in Eve. Play 5-10 hours a week for the first month at most. After that, play 24/7. As soon as you get that assault frig, everything blows up and moves incredibly fast.

All these phases are subject to drastic changes based on the previous phases. If we have a sudden influx of people, it'll be fine, we'll just have to accommodate it.

Phase 1 (3-5 people): I'd like to take a few people that are more into the idea of "playing eve" and get them involved. We'll get things started up and begin our humble corp. Learning basics, fulfilling some basic roles. Work out the bugs in corp management and the meta-corp duties. Working in Torrinos.

Phase 2 (10-15 people): Small expansion. People that have moderate interest are welcomed in. We may begin to take a few of the guys out to 0.0 and learning what living life in the void is like. Teach people to scout the EL8 gate and even better, get through the pipe to null sec.

Phase 3 (? people): Continued expansion. Here, we'll hopefully have enough players to move the corp offices into X-7OMU. As this will be a transitory phase, it will be one of the harder ones. We'll begin to take in more (hopefully) hesitant Anvilites. Most of our operations will run out of torrinos as they have been to keep the people joining involved.

Phase 4 (?? people): The long beyond. Plans this far ahead will need to be figured out and will be based upon the success of the previous phases. At this point I'd like to get us in more serious discussion with Maru Ka'ge. I'm already in, and they are open to the idea, we just need to be able to show we're worth the trouble. I can expand on this more if you like.

This can and will (given the right activity) work. If you want be a nay-sayer, I'm honestly trying to make a solid, well organized, well funded attempt at this. Let it happen and in 3 months, you can say, "Hey, remember that time you tried to get us into eve?" A better game just doesn't exist. Eve is time-proven and continues to evolve.

If the interest is here, I'll expand more about what we can do. Dominion (the latest expansion) starts TOMORROW. Providence smiles upon this timing.

I have an old eve account. I can't remember what race or class I am though, does that matter?

I've always had an interest in EVE. But everyone tells me how bad it is, and how boring.

I also tried the trial before, and didn't like that there were like 3 people you could be and how they all looked like huge turds.

I don't know beyond that point. I kinda fucked around for a few minutes, but realized I didn't know what to do, and couldn't think of anything I wanted to do.

So I stopped.

Well, the dev team have been making various improvements in improving the new player experience by making the character creation, tutorial, and early game less daunting, they've also been cutting down skill requirements. If enough people are interested, I'm more than willing to join in and help out in getting people started.

it can be hard to get into but it's really the best pvp mmo out there, as stalwart said get specialice in frig and you will see how fun small gang fighting can be :P

i'd reactivate my old account if some people started playing this, can prolly contribute a deal to pvp ops.. the fucking problem is that i'd have to spend 18 hours doing missions before i could get a funny ship :grrr:

Not really. I mean, it's kind of important that you remember your acct UN/PW. if it's under 1 mil SP or under 3 mil SP and you don't yet have all the learning skills trained, I'd start a new character because of the sped up training.

well, ask those people if they've played for longer or less than a single month. most games nowadays have you start out at level 1 with one spell/skill and you use it to kill 5 bunny rabbits, and you level up and you get another one.

after 20 minutes, they've led you around with a carrot until you feel like you've actually made progress ("lvl 20"). niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger even did this. all skills started out with easy/quick gains, and then it got harder. they lure you in with easy gains/quick progression, but it eventually grinds to a halt. once you've macro'd, where do you go?

in eve, it's completely the opposite. the world is much harsher on you. they stick you into the world as it is... they provide you with a kickass tutorial that takes literally an hour or two, but it still can't give you but a glimpse of the entire game. they used to start out with easy progression, but people ended up hating the game more. if you can make it up that first learning curve (and the slope is brutal), then you'll be just fine. luckily, for the first month, you'll only have the skill points for a 100k isk frigate.

why do you think that those of us that have made it past the first month (and especially beyond that) won't shut the fuck up about it?

18 hours doing missions?

for money? no. best way to get in game money is to do complexes or trade. possibly wormholing.

best way over all? i'll give you all the frigates, cruisers, and possibly battlecruisers for free. after frigates, we're probably going assault frigs. once we get to interdictors (natural progression after assault frigs), that as well.

I can do 10-20 hours total play time for the next 3 weeks. More than that is not do able, with my finals and shit. After that is winter break for a month. So I could spend more time I suppose. However, I'm not wanting, or able to really pay for anything.

I'll sign up again. I forget how many SP I have. I know I have a Drake and I was about at a Raven. I don't remember much else. I tried to get back in a few months ago, but forgot how to play and had no one to play with. If we get at least 1 or 2 people that are on between 9PM and 1 AM CST, I'll definitely get back into it. Hell. I'll sign up anyways just to start training again. I have an urge to mine :-/

I can only play an hour or two a day before POST; so the afk training suits me. I make my money in eve by highsec suicide-ganking indy's and then missioning or going nullsec ratting to bring my concord standing back up. The tears of people who lose all their BPO's in highsec are priceless. Not to mention the proteus I netted last night that shit made my week positive and paid for the account.

How does the gambling work Stalwart, can we exploit it?

Eh, it has its pros and cons. I always like that I could set it to train some skills, and then walk away and go do something else, or level while I'm asleep so I can play when I'm awake, instead of grinding.

Atleast grinding you are doing something. This game, for the first month or so... You log in, train some skills, log out. You can't do anything else for that month... That just seems so ... boring...

Spinewire

yea doing something ball bustingly boring... in eve you you can train a skill make a bit of money trading or mining then log out and not think "Oh shit, i need to be leveling up!".

not really trying to troll anyone. i will note that people were willing to afk macro for days on end, but when the game has a mechanic for that, it's suddenly not kosher.

You can view skills on the website. But, to change them, you must be in game.

Yes, we have that ability, and that will be one of the things that we rely on heavily to make sure that everyone is on the right track.

There will be 2 programs you need:

EVEMON and EFT. These allow me to view your character and assets, as well as what your training, and then send you a file with a schedule for what to train. EFT allows for me to send you a file with the modules that you need.

People that are signing up now: go amarr or minmatar, this will make it easier for me to mass purchase ships, modules, and skills.

the main reason that they are cutting down skill reqs and decreasing train time is because a LOT of the old guard are finally fed the fuck up and quitting, especially over the last year...the policy switch in skill trains did it for most people that cant get free funds for their indy characters, but most of those people are secfags anyways.

either way point is the bottleneck at the high end characters got a few notches tighter, so they have to open the floodgates a little more to make more highly skilled characters faster, otherwise the disconnect between the high and low end gets wider, and its a pretty wide gap as is.

if only they would of made the chinks play on tranquility we would never run out of fodder, although we would have to learn how to zhongwen it up a bit.

Edit: Caldari for the fucking win...let me introduce you to my SPACE MISSILEZ....plus I'd rather fly asymetric legos all day then ducttaped debris and solar panels of most minmatar shit.

Would re-rolling be better than using this char?

That character's alright. The main thing is not to have to many points into gay charisma starting off. At least, in the past it was that way.....

I think thats as low as i could get it... I was aiming mainly for mad amounts of missiles now i come to think of it.

I have no idea where i should go with him now, as i have not played it for fucking ages, suppose i could just stick it in learning till i get my grove back on.

the first thing you'll need to do is train your learning skills to 4. pm me your API, i'll figure out what order is best for your attributes + what skills you have/want. this will probably take 2 weeks.

we'll probably also reroll your attributes after you get your memory based learning skills done to optimize it. i prefer balanced Int/Per/Wis/Mem with shitting on char for the long term, but it's probably to your advantage that you have memory at 15 right now.

The game is back up. The new planets look awesome. Anyways, let's make an in-game channel to start with called "SOTA".

Amarr is my favorite race. I've always liked religious zealots in games and they have the coolest ships, all gold and smooth.

I think I liked Amarr, I don't really remember. I only played the free trial, a year or so ago.

amarr has been the way to go for a while now. they are the best armor tanks. i still prefer minmatar, but meh, that's only because that's what i made and grew to like the playstyle.

I want to deploy face rape at close range, which race is for me. I also like drones. pew pew

it doesn't make *that* huge of a difference, and i don't know what difference these cross race ships are going to have that they just released.

Gallente rape face in that fashion. Their ships are pretty too.

Right. I have played most of the game solo so complexes was never a good option and my character has no trade skills whatsoever... I can although fly everything up to hac gallente, with bs 5, di 5, large t2 guns etc so a "fun" ship is... atleast 150mil :o but i am kinda poor so yeah u can give me ships
