View Full Version : If i buy this game...

Will i be able to play it, or do i have to wait for the beta block "E" to open up?

i was reading this (http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/15603-all-beta-info-you-need.html) and it says that they are doing block ABCD and if you buy you can get in block E, but it also says block E was supposed to begin in september... are they on schedule or will i end up waiting after i buy it?

also if anyone would be so kind to let me use their account, i would like to play a bit before i buy it, so that way i can see if its a total waste of money first... i know its "only" like 60 bucks usd, but im kinda poor...

also how many anvil members are there currently in game? and how active?

edit: and i wont be playing for a few weeks, i have finals at the beginning of december

there's about a dozen to fifteen people who bought it, and they play it very irregularly to piss around and see what's new when things are added. mostly to legitimize the stupid purchase in the first place.

might be a good game in a while, but it's certainly not there yet. don't buy it with any intent to "play" it.

Being one of the fifteen or whatever people that got.. It has promise.. so far, but again I quote Surlu

It's like saying you bought a package of cornflakes just so you could get the toy inside. Sure you like cornflakes but damn you wanted that toy.

Technically, the toy is in fact free. Other cornflakes packages might not contain additional stuff, it just so happens that the guys who made the package you bought put one in it.

Now, you might argue that the toy was a "paid toy" and you actually had to buy the package of cornflakes to get it. While this is true you can also view it in a different way: "Only people who bought the package of cornflakes may get this toy for free".

Viewing it that way, the beta suddenly becomes a "closed beta, only for those who bought the game".

Also for Atnas: Switch cornflakes with chocolate.

No it's more like buying a packet of cornflakes, but instead of recieving the pack the company ships you a single cornflake every so often as a free trial.

If you want to play a completed game, this isn't it. If you want to fuck around with people and help find bugs and shit, you might have fun!

and exploit bugs to annoy people, too!

anyway, i had a ton of fun with mortal. there's nothing really to do "as a clan" in the game other than get together and harass people, and there's not much implemented in the game really. but it's a great thing to casually pop into and test things (and i do mean test, not play, although the line blurs when you find silly bugs to exploit). it's early beta testing for what it used to be, and it's got the foundation of a great game in the future. more potential than niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger during its early beta period, that's for sure, and i had a lot of respect for niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger's underlying potential that it never capitalized on.

so, from what i've seen, i believe mortal - if it undergoes a FULL development cycle - will be a great game when it launches. if it launches early, as niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger did, it will forever be playing catch-up and not doing any real development which will be necessary for the game's success and fun... just as niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger did.

another note, if you enjoyed UO back in its prime you will adore Mortal if it is fully complete at launch.

I'm certainly not going to argue with you. We more than most should be aware of over hyping a game which could still turn into a complete pile of monkey cum. We should take it for what it is right now, an incomplete game with promise. If it turns into a decent game then we should start to rave about it. Until then, unless people are desperate to buy the game, i would suggest holding off and maybe asking the people who do have copies very nicely to borrow it.

Not directly but we found out the hard way that building your house in the middle of what is basically a clans village ends badly. So there definatley will be territory control it just wont be a cut and dry mechanic which in many ways could be more interesting.

tetsu obviously has this one handled. good job

either way, the whole argument here seems to be over a technicality when people fail to realize that the game is really a heaping pile of shit. it doesn't matter if you get 1 or 2 heaping piles of shit, i wouldn't be a proud owner of either one.

this game will not be like UO, surly, if we've all played UO before, because we've changed our attitude towards that kind of game by overplaying it. (We've changed the results by measuring them! - Hubert J Farnsworth)

Sounds like Stalwart is still bitter about some other game that's failed miserably...

Also, the cornflakes should be accumulative, so you get 1 cornflake on day one, 2 and day two, 3 on day three and so on. That it would make more sense as well as work with Surly's idea, which I share, that the game will be awesome when it's complete. If they have it complete when it's at release or not is the uncertain matter.

Also I still wouldn't have bought it if I knew what I know now. Knowing that the game would be worthless without other people, a lot of other people, to share common goals with and the 'beta' testing they're doing is going better than DF's, but so too is it still too slow to be released '4th quater 2009'. Unless that's changed recently they could spit this out at any time.

Anyway, I do 'play' it from time to time. I have yet to actually get a good handle on the controls tho since all I end up doing is running around and trying to teabag and mushroom stamp as many people as I can before I get bored and load up a game I can have actual fun in.

This game has more potential for territory control than niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger ever did.

They are currently testing the flagging system for "trespassing", which could easily be used to allow controllers of an area to determine who is allowed to be in their region.

Also, their construction system already has "modular" components to it, which would allow for construction capabilities that niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger sorely lacked.

Is the game complete? No. Does it have a ton of potential? Yes.

The devs are not fags, they update constantly, they actually play the game, and they have good structured development planning.

There is no other MMO in development that really looks to deliver things our guild wants aside from Mortal.
