I played AOC for a very short time, and played DF for a short time. Ive been reading up on Mortal a little bit. So far it seems exactly the same. I guess what im asking is, what does Mortal have that puts it apart from games like DF.

Full first person view
Much more tactical and deadly combat
Intricate crafting system

These are the things I have experienced first hand playing in beta. Theres lots of other stuff but this is stuff I have actually played with in game.

Let's put it this way. The beta at the moment doesn't have nearly as much stuff implemented, but what it does have implemented is better handled, more balanced, done more professionally then DF was when we left the game.

That still doesn't mean the game won't turn out to be shit. I refuse to get my hopes up, but I don't see how it could be worse than DF.

I think we can begin to judge it somewhat with the next patch, since it will bring MassiveLOD. Basically this will make the game run smother and will also allow them to add a bunch of other stuff (priority being more play area apparently).

They've also said that they've realized that the game right now is piss boring and they are working on putting in some "fun" elements into the game to keep people from getting bored. I'm expecting much these next two months.

What we learned from DF; Judge it as good even if it sucks and then quit after 2 months of intense time-waste :thumb:
