So, they have pretty much confirmed that there will be both a EU and a NA server at launch. Which will we play on?

EU advantages:


Members from EU will whine less
Killing French people is funnier than killing Mexicans
According to many US beta testers, the lag isn't horrible and is playable.
We know what this server can do and SV has direct contact with it, so problems (if any) will probably be solved faster

EU disadvantages:


Members from the US will whine more than usual
Members from the US might get pissed off at all the EU people speaking whatever the hell language is their home language in chat
Members from the US might experience more lag
Fucking Russians.

NA advantages:


Members from the US will whine less
Killing Canadians is funnier than killing Greeks
More niggerniggerniggerniggernigger people
If the server we have now is anything to go from, the lag for EU people might not be so bad

NA disadvantages:


Members from EU will whine more than usual
Members from EU might get depressed from the lack of their home language in chat
The server will not have direct contact with the SV office, which means it will probably take longer for problems (if any) to be solved
Members from the EU might experience more lag

depends on where the NA server is located, but being detached from fartvault could be good or bad. it'll be staffed by different people, and perhaps less nazi like.

I played a game of HoN with Russians and all they did was talked in chat to each other in Russian even though the other three people on the team didn't understand it and they knew how to speak English.

Russians are some of the best dota players though. They are either terrible or really good.

All of the jobless nerdgamers here getting fat and living off welfare means more server activity throughout the day. US servers tend to have more of "peak" time every day and dead the rest of the time.

If you read the IRC Q&A it sounds like they are going to have an NA server up before release.

A. I get depressed by seing my native language (and other euro's native languages) in chat.

But I'll be fine with whatever. Also, I don't think EU people would whine more than USUAL, seeing as we play on NA servers often enough for it to be considered the norm. We'd definately bitch about it though.

FYI, they're not including a ping counter in order to stop the petty whining that goes on once some elitist people's ping goes above 75ms.

I'm very much in favour of this, so providing i'm able to effectivly swing and hit targets without visable lag i'm happy wherever the fuck we go.

I don't think so. A lot of people complain that they've got a ping of 100+ just because it's 100+. They base it upon old ideas of how games USED to work and not taking into account modern network code techniques.

Actually, that said, your post is correct. People will complain, but they'll be complaints that are valid because all they have to base their complaints on is that they're swinging at point X but someone has glitched to point Y because of Lag.

I agree with this a little, 100 is ping is nothing no a days, even 200 or less is no problem really. But I would say it's safe to bet that anything over 200 is annoying and anything 250-300+ is just not acceptable for any fast paced game, which is what most if not all FPS style games are.

Again, tho, I agree that people are retard if they complain for having anything under 199.

A- campana, not sure about that, as our latency network code is diff from many other mmos nd mp games, the important thing is how you are able to compete in real time combat, if you suffer delay or cant hit correctly then its a isp/latency problem, and you woill probbaly need a server closer to you.

The Japanese and other azns tend to do that when playing American MMOs too, really internet minorities tend to group together.

Anyways, we'll need to see how much lag effects gameplay once the netcode and such has stabilized. I was able to do decently in DF being as far away from the servers as possible (well, short of Australia but fuck them, they're used to it).

Yeah, Japan usually will swing to the American servers, when I played DAoC, our server at night somehow got to 90%+ of the population for Albion was Japanese, and the same was true for Chinese/Hiberion and Korean/Midgard.
