Anyone care to rub out a review on this fucking thing based on preliminary experience? We all know a dog the minute we see it, when it has no hope of success, regardless of how little is "enabled".

How much fun is the game in its current, hacked up, state? How enthusiastic were you about MO before beta? How enthusiastic are you now?

It's tough to say so soon if it's a game we should be gearing up for... but is it one to really watch closely? If it's either super awesome, or super shit, the answer should be no.

the game seems extremely buggy and i hear only like 100 ppl can log in at once despite all the betas they sold lol.

i watched goobles play it on a video stream and the graphics look better than niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger but the world is empty like niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger.

the combat looked kind of better than niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger because there was like realistic delays but i only saw a fistfight because they only have 1 type of weapon made and when i saw it, it equipped backwards like the model had just been added

the game has kind of cool ragdoll physics unlike niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger. and ppls bodies can be manipulated after theyve died. goobles made a niggerniggerniggerniggernigger guy so everyone kept trying to punch him and he ended up fist fighted this guy to death. afterwards he was able to kick his legs around and stick his foot into his butthole. im not sure if this is ok or not.

summary: if niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger and mortal kombat had a baby it might be a good game

It's too early to say whether or not the game is going to be shit, but from what I've played so far in beta, I'd say the game has the potential to be good fun.

I've probably killed over 100 players, a dozen decapitations or so - http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/5157/decap.png -, and I think the game's melee is pretty good fun, when not lagging. I had some good 1v1 fights with other players, just after server-up, before the game starts lagging.

I think the game has promise, but it's a bit too early to say whether or not it'll be a 'good' game, at release, given that the game is currently only 1/10th the file size that the developers say the full thing is.

I think it's gonna be awesome. Minus all the bugs that are to be expected the core elements they have at the moment are very promising.

The combat still needs tweaking but has some very nice features. Like when you unsheath, you start walking, so you can't just run around people hack and slashing them. You can off course sprint with your weapon unsheathed but this drains stamina quite fast (stamina drains and regens alot quicker than in niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger).

The graphics are incredible in many respects such as the draw distance is absoloutly huge. It makes the world seem to epic and there are always huge snow capped mountains in the background and the sky looks amazing. All the textures close up do look pretty meh though, but i haven't botherd tweaking my ini to change any settings as they haven't made the menu in game to do that yet.

And yeah the world is empty but i know they have alot of features disabled at this stage of beta and just what to be testing the bare basics really. So will have to wait a while to see what happens with that.

When it comes down to it, I'm thinking by block C we'll know if its shat or not because even with the server problems in block A... 4 minutes is enough to see almost everything offered to you in block A.

From the little gameplay experience I've got:

I've not yet been able to craft anything, because of server errors, I have not got my first weapon and I have not talked to an NPC (since I was spawn miles from a city or in the lake of sausages).

The game currently has a lot of bugs. Since this is early beta/alpha though, I think it's OK to say that these bugs might be fixed. Not a lot of things are enabled, right now we can pretty much just walk around, hit each other, find bugs and occasionally kill a mob (and apparently craft and gather stuff as well).

The controls are god damn awful, but that's because they haven't enabled key remapping yet (God I hope they do soon). Because of this, navigating menus and the game itself becomes a pain in the ass.

The environments are really fucking awesome, I actually found a forest which was actually an forest. I ran into the forest, spun around and all of sudden I had no fucking idea of where I was. I had to run around for awhile to find something I could climb up on to see above the trees. They also have some problems with this though... As the view is pretty much "You can see everything, just like you can in real life", it feels kind of odd when you run on an empty field and all of a sudden trees just starts popping up before you. I mean, I can see that tiny river on that mountain fucking miles away but I can't see the huge fucking tree some 100 meters in front of me.

Other than trees, some stones and occasionally some grass, the land you walk on is pretty dead actually. For most part it's just green textured ground and it isn't nice to look at either since they only have low-res mood enabled at the moment.

Fighting actually feels like a challenge, since I haven't found the NPC that gives you a weapon though, I've only been able to play boxing matches. Works pretty well I must say, even though the controls are shit right now.

THE SKY IS FUCKING AMAZING, I FIND MYSELF RUNNING AND JUST LOOKING UP BECAUSE IT LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD.

I like what they did with the whole *you can see yourself* thing. Adds much depth to the game. Seeing your penis while swimming backwards is just awesome. Still needs some work though, but they are getting there.

All around effects are pretty fucking awesome. I love the effects when you die and I love the effects when you are dead in the ether world. The underwater effects is kind of nice as well (still needs some work though).

It's too early to say anything about the game though really, since it's so much they haven't enabled yet. I like the game right now though even through I haven't done anything but running around. When traveling it actually feels like you travel, you come to a new place. If I want to travel to that mountain 5 miles away, I can do that and it feels fucking awesome when I come there.

Still needs to be polished a lot but I see more potential in this than DF (if they can fix everything before the game releases). Right now the servers aren't working properly, so that's the first thing they'll have to fix. Can't wait for them to put in more stuff for us to play with. The game also seems pretty dead at the moment, but I guess that will fix itself with time.

Regardless of past experiences, you need to take everything as it is.
I'm not saying we should forget Darkfail altogether, only that MO and niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger are two different games, and MO is still really early. Give it time to show a bit more growth, say BlockC or D, than we'll know for certain how shit it's going to be.

It's not compensating for how much the game sucks. It's to tell you what features the game is going to have. Stop being retarded and treating beta 4 months before release as the final game. Atleast the problem isn't that the servers can't handle the number of people. The problem is people keep doing things that crash the server. Obviously this happens less frequently with less peopl in. Hence the cap.

Anyway, doesn't look like DF has made it out of beta yet

so the choppers are still flying around overhead and i decide to go back to the place where everything was going down, which is like the center of town where i grew up..


im noticing some patches of deep red grass and im thinking to myself "whoa thats neat" when this crowd of niggerniggerniggerniggernigger folk come out of the building and start walking toward me shouting protests and what not.. they are saying things like "GET HIM" and "THATS THE ONE"... so i figure im done in at this point.

Crafting: A mystery.

First, you need to go get some material, I have managed to find wood and some sort of stone.

The stone, you can then refine to get different material (you can't make anything with the stone, so you have to refine it) by taking it to the refine master guy. He then gives you the refined material (I've got Nyx, Pig Iron, Silver and Gold).

When you have your material, you take them to the crafter guy. He then asks you (pretend you want to make an weapon now), which kind of sword handle you want. I choosed 2h Sword.

You then choose the material for said handle, I chosed Pig Iron (it doesn't say how much it takes, so you must go through the whole creation step before it tells you if you have enough/if you need more). You then choose a secondary "support material" (which can be the same material).

After this you are done with the handle and you move on to the blade. Here you can choose what kind of blade you want (examples are: Dagger blade 1, Short sword 3 and etc). I choose Great Blade. After you've done this you chose a material for the blade.

And then you click done, and whola, your new weapon is in your backpack.

Intresting fact: This system is completely text based. There is no picture which shows how the weapon will look or how said "dagger blade 1" looks like, you just have to experiment with it. If you don't know if "Pig Iron" is good for a blade, the only way to find out is to make a blade with that material.

Intresting fact2: You can put together pretty much anything made of anything. You can pretty much make a dagger handle made out of firmwood with a Axe blade made of gold on top, this is pretty fun.

Intresting fact3: Some steps have "how much material do you want to use". This confuses me because the scale is between "0.0000" and "1.0000", however "0.5770" doesn't actually mean 5770 of chosen material. It's more like "how much of the blade do you want to make with this material". Still doesn't say how much though, so you just have to get more material if it shows you're missing something when you're done.

See, that's the flaw; developers thinking that unqualified, unprofessional 'beta testers' from the Internets, will be somehow equivalent with QA certified testers who have years of experience in testing and documenting computer games.

The only reason an mmo should use 'beta testers' from the Internets, is to use them as guinea pigs, set loose in the mmo cage, with various experiments set up, and logging systems, to document what happens; stress testing too, of course.

Last week, before the new client, it was 100 cap. Then for the weekend it was going to be 800 cap. Problem is, the server was down all weekend.

Now IRC says no cap, dunno how many are play or if they are, because I'm at work, fuck work. Not that I'd blow off my job to run play this yet.

Currently Surly, to me, yes, it's complete shit. Because I have gone through the character creator dozens of times without creating a character. They have fucked up thinking, game server can be down, but you'll still log in to character creation because login server is up. No good way to know if the game server is down or up, so you try to make a character, nothing happens so you can assume the game server is down. At least now with beta IRC you can find out for sure.

It looks good.
The crafting variables will be cool, though I agree with previous comments that there will end up being certain templates people will use.
Combat might be cool, based on what I've seen other people do or I have heard of, yeah, it should be good.
Anything else, hard to say since it's not in the game yet...

I will add, the mistake the devs really made was allowing so many in so quickly. I suppose if they can get through it fast, with the server crashing so much, and get it fixed, that this will be a good thing. If not, then it is a serious fuck up.

Right now, there's errors on the server which makes it crash. The devs goals right now is to sort these out so the server don't crash (I heard this happened even with only 4 people on the server, which means it has nothing to do with how many people that connects).

I also find the "logging in on character screen but still not the game" issue retarded, but devs have said they have acknowledged the problem.

The server won't be up anymore today last I heard, because the devs ended test phase for today, they are now working on a new patch, try again tomorrow (swedish time).

The game has a real solid base to build on.


And the graphics are amazing, and don't slow down my PC at all. There are tons of options you can fiddle with in the unreal ini files. I made it so vegetation spawns like ONE BILLION miles away. Pretty sweet.

But irc is by far the most effective source of server status. It usually goes up around midnight west coast time, and then on and off every ~5 minutes. Sebastian has us test stuff so sometimes the server is only up for a minute because he wants us to stress stuff or find a limit or pinpoint a problem. Im very impressed with the amount of interaction they have with us. I just wish they had a beta forum. Mantis sucks ass, even Drhat agrees.

Why ellse would you pre-order a game that hasn't even been reviewed yet if it didn't include the beta?
I never got people who pre-ordered shit anyway. Only point would be if it's significantly cheaper but nowdays it's almost the other way around - cause you do get that sweet beta to, oh boy!

But don't get me wrong, I do know what you mean and in theory you're right but in practise I'm not sure that you are. I guess you could sue if the game doesn't come out. Depends on what contract/liscence you signed up on.
This is a way for them to get cash fast and have people pay them to test their game and as someone mentioned earlier they think that the random internet bloke is as good as a real tester.


PS: Though you do have my thanks. This is a good way to support new companies instead of having them sell their soul to EA or something. It's just that the beta IMO should always be free and the game should be possible to pre-order without it for a smaller sum than it will cost in the store.

They have mentioned that they did start preorders early because they didn't have much money left. They hope they'll have a good budget until the game comes out and money starts rolling in on it's own. Also They'll get free beta testers (although the quality of said beta testers vary greatly).

And as you said, this is a small company, which means they don't print out 100000 copies of their game boxes, but a maximum of 10000, which makes the box itself much more expensive. Therefor they wouldn't make much money if they sold it for lower the value of what you could've bought it for in a store. Even through the direct download is much cheaper than the box version, I heard they actually make more money selling those - with less effort. The only reason they offered boxed versions in the first place was because the fans wanted it.

I do understand your concern though, I'm not exactly a fan of it either. But since they have good reasons (good for me anyway) I'm willing to turn a blind eye on it, as long as I can see the beta client evolve in a good direction.

He was un able to tell the difference between me qouting him and me just talking. He would keep saying things like "i didn't say that" when i wasn't even fucking qouting him. Also he told me i contradicted my self at one point and i spent 15 minutes trying to get him to point out where, in which time he tried to change the subject multiple times and ended up basically being adament i did but wasn't going to tell me because i wouldn't understand or some stupid shit.

i don't hate on MO's business model. small company, and matching egos are pretty rare. they've been up front an honest about development, which is more than anyone can say for Adventure Time. StarDork is at least trustworthy and has integrity. that, unfortunately, isn't enough to make a game good. but if they fail, it'll be for lack of talent, business management, money, or time... not lying to your customers.

i take a lot of comfort in that... but remain quite skeptical about this game being successful.

Anyone care to rub out a review on this fucking thing based on preliminary experience? We all know a dog the minute we see it, when it has no hope of success, regardless of how little is "enabled".

How much fun is the game in its current, hacked up, state? How enthusiastic were you about MO before beta? How enthusiastic are you now?

It's tough to say so soon if it's a game we should be gearing up for... but is it one to really watch closely? If it's either super awesome, or super shit, the answer should be no.

Combat has been fine for me, a few times it gets a bit laggy and silly shit start happening, but most of the time it's fine and altho slower than DF i feel it will be better than the spammy click fest that DF was.

Pros
+ It looks nice even on my aged rig.
+ No name filter. (Rapey is my char)
+ Gathering enough for a sword etc is relatively quick process.

Cons
- I have not found any mobs.
- I cannot craft anything even tho it chews up what i have gathered.
- I have no sound.
- Death animations are limited to a blood explosion, reguardless of what you do to them.
- Cannot loot.
- Hardly any NPCs.
- Shitty low budget interface (worse than DFs)
- Slot based inventory.
- Really early beta feeling to it.

They turned it off, because it had something to do with crashing the server (last I heard, right now I'm in the middle of no mans land with limited Internet so I can't really check).

Looting is bugged right now. As they've turned of basically all messages that tells you "you can't do that right now" that means that you'll think it's lag/you can't loot when you try to loot an empty loot bag (most are empty). I've looted several times though, so I know it's working.

No map is a feature, they intend to have a "map making" skill. No, I don't know how this work.

I agree on the can't rebind anything though, sucks hard. It is however a known bug and will hopefully be fixed next patch.

I don't think the art is so ugly, I agree though it could be much better looking and as I said, if we want something changed now is the time to say it, either on Manti(t)s or IRC (possibly PMs on the forum, but I doubt they'll read those seriously). You can't really say DFs art was much better though.

On the bright side a found a neat map for when you are running around lost.

Doubt it, they did not last weekend. I think they feel the more players online, the harder it is to find the roots of all the crashes so they are not too concerned about the weekends.

However, around block C/D they need to get in shape. If the server is up and holding strong, they can't just skip the weekends.
