If you havent read this already, then here it is. A detailed a well thought out beta test. So for those of you that think its gunna be niggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggerniggernigger 2.0, think again stupid fucks.

Beta testing and gameplay
The Beta is starting July 20 with the features from Combat Beta active, as well as a few new ones. The very first steps have to do with architecture, back-end and network-performance. To begin with, we are aiming to test:

MO Updater (auto-patching system)
Account System, Login, Logout
Character Creation (The “human family” only, like Tindremenes, Khurites etc, male and female)
General Network and Server stability and speed
Crowd congestion tests
Seamless World-streaming
Updated Prediction System
Sound
Client System Performance

This is not very fun from a gameplay-perspective, although crucial from a technical standpoint. To make you run around in the world and have some feeling of purpose in this crude beginning, we are also testing:

Attribute balancing, basic Skill gain (a few example skills)
Further real time PvP, Melee and Archery Combat testing and balancing
"Vendor-crafting" (you bring resources to a vendor, who then crafts stuff for you according to your instructions, like in Combat Beta). The Skills and GUI (Graphical User Interface) for the "real" crafting is still in development
Very basic resource-gathering (refining, prospecting etc will be in together with crafting later on, meaning at the moment you will get magically pre-refined resources when mining, etc)

Fundamental AI-behavior, a few creatures
World traversing, Swimming and Combat Swimming
Around 32km^2 of the Myrland continent
Basic banking (global at first, local if we manage to get it in before this weekend)
Local chat (no languages)
The Flagging System (complete with temporary insta-guards in guard zones)

That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. These first important steps will be the foundation of the game, and updates will come quickly and at a regular basis once we are confident most of the above is working in the new massive environment.

Please also remember that both your possessions and your Characters can be wiped from the server at any moment, and that this may happen several times during the Beta.

You're in for a rough ride, but we are excited for those of you who want to embark on this journey with us!

It's pretty hard to say how developed it is imo just yet, because it isn't scheduled for release until Q4 (probably december), and we really don't know how stable the general architecture of the game is. If all that remains is polishing up the UI and character generation, and balancing skill gains and effectiveness, then they are in a pretty good spot for being pre-Beta I think.

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking since they already have my money :yank:

But just think of it... you paid $75 for like 5 months of beta cake, and then you get to actually play the game for a month.

Instead of like $75 of 3 months of playing the game that was supposed to be beta cake.

I'd say your getting your monies worth! or atleast, twice your monies worth!

From what they said they don't have crafting done, any sort of PvE, mounts, taming, any sort of PvP goals, housing, most skills, and whatever extra stuff they want.

From the testing goals all they have done is some combat, some banking, some resource gathering, and most of the basic functions of playing (loading areas, moving around, sound, gui, etc.)

They've still worked with the other stuff, it's just not tested yet.

The time to start worrying about it is when they say they have "tested x features internally".

Wrong. They don't have them all finished. For example they don't have the crafting mini game done. You can still craft weapons like they show in the power point but they are finding it hard to implement some awesome mini game Matts has been making for crafting into the unreal engine and are gonna have to code in some other "pipeline" or something that they wont have time to do till after release.

And for housing they just havent decided how resitrictive they are going to have to be with where you can build it yet.

Basically most stuff is physically there and coded but they haven't decided the best way to implement it.

Maybe they should get a ton of people into the game to test out ideas they have so they could find the right one... :yank:

I don't think any MMO developer has been truthful about how complete their game is. We'll just have to see.

I think a lot of game devs do this. They have convinced themselves that there is no better way to do something than "their" way. An example, I was in Pirates of the Burning Sea beta, I tried to offer up some suggestions as to alternative ways to gain xp (since it was a level based POS). A dev actually responded with "this is great discussion but our way is the way we'll be doing it and it won't be changing". That was my last attempt to be a 'helpful' tester.

I agree with the sentiments that these guys are being pretty truthful. The second they start talking about how stuff has been "tested internally" I will barf, but until then they get the benefit of the doubt. They have an incomplete game right now, and they admit it... they're not saying "We could release today if we wanted to!"
