I believe Monte is in charge of those things. Be patient, he is old and slow and his hearing isn't so good anymore. You could speed things up by sending him a PM though.

You have to join the group of the DF forums yourself, by going to your UserCP -> Group Memberships, and selecting "join" next to Anvil Society. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit "submit". After that, Monte has to accept your petition to join. Since the forum software doesn't notify people when they get a group application, it might help to PM him (his username is monte9) there, or here.

After you've been accepted you have to go back to the Group Memberships page, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select "Anvil Society" as the group you wish to identify as. Then hit submit.

Complicated, huh?
