Mitt liv som hund (My Life As a Dog) is a movie I just watched. It was made in Sweden and the language spoken in the movie is...well, it's Swedish.

I really don't want to get into the synopsis of the movie, but if anyone has a love of movies made outside the United States, you should watch this one, enough said.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and I was wondering if any of the Swedes have any input on this. It was made in 1985...so it might be a bit dated, I really don't know how old our resident Swedes are. Is this a good movie in Sweden, anyone know??

Also...it's the first time in a movie I was my last name...well the name used was Simonsson...but mine is just Simonson...because it's a bit Americanized. So that was pleasing.

Oh...and from the country that I saw, Sweden is pretty beautiful. Good job Swedes!!

P.S. I'm not sure if this was a very accurate portrayal of what Sweden is actually like. I did not see a single meatball...nor did I hear anyone say "bork bork bork". So yeah, it's pretty much a fantasy.

I was a bit surprised at the title of the thread, I don't think I've seen the movie but I'm pretty sure it's regarded as a classic here in Sweden.

Yeah, it does. Netflix has the movie...so if you have a sub. to that, check it out.

And i'm sure pirating is an option too.

I'm glad that Sweden doesn't think it's a piece of trash, while us Americans love it. I'm glad that we have a good representation of Sweden's cinema.

Oh..and on Rotten Tomatoes it has a 100% with 28 votes. So that's not too shabby.

We have Tuntematon sotilas.

But since you movie freaks want something that doesn't describe the Finns as the best people in the world with everybody as unique heroes, I don't really have anything to offer.

I've heard it's good but I predict I'd hate it. I'm an anti-fan of every day drama, got a really hard time enjoying a movie unless it presents a fantastic adventure.

Adventure in the fantasy sense?

The boy does go on adventures, but they are in a town...so they may not be fantastic to you.

He's pretty good at falling from high heights and living, though.

Have you ever watched any movies by the Finnish director Ari Kaurismaki? I don't know how widespread movies from the Finnish film industry are, but he makes alot of comedies (Finnish comedy, the most depressing, black tragedy you'll ever watch) about Nordic society, such as "Man without a name", etc.

Finnish film-makers say they're going to boycott producing movies next year, the film industry is state sponsored, and it's their 'protest' for a cut in funding for next fiscal year.

I put the movie "Man Without a Past" into my netflix queue, is that the one you meant? It'll probably arrive sometime next week.

What the adventure is about is not very important as long as it feels, I dunno, adventurous. Like a fresh frontier, road movies. Also Starship Troopers.

Haha, yes. Sorry about that, Finnish is like that, a person's "name" can also mean the person's past.

Yeah, it's regarded as a classic, and I reckon it's a good movie.
And aye, Sweden is a pretty country, but aside from central Stockholm, our cities look like tiny towns.
You should come here!

Do you -feel- it men?
We're turning them...yes, yes, one by one...

You'll see....
